PSG still not perfect…2-3 loss to Nice despite Mbappe multi-goal

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) failed to take a point at home despite a multi-goal performance from Kylian Mbappe. Lee Kang-In, who recently returned from injury, was left off the roster.

PSG fell 2-3 to Nice in the fifth round of the 2023-24 French Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes in Paris, France, at 4 a.m. ET on Saturday. After opening the season with two wins, two draws, and one loss in five games, PSG sits in third place in the league with eight points.

On this day, PSG went with a 4-3-3 formation. Mbappe, Hammers, and Dembele lined up up front, while Vitinha, Emery, and Soler formed the midfield. The back four was Lukaku, Skriniar, Pereira, and Hakimi, with Donnarumma in goal. Nice countered with Morphy, Laborde, Thurand, Sangsong and Todibo.

PSG was looking to win its third straight league title. Due to injuries and the upcoming start of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) schedule in midweek, the team went with a partial rotation. Marquinhos, Ugarte, Kolo Moani, and others were benched.

However, the game didn’t go the way they wanted. We conceded the first goal in the 21st minute. Fortunately, Mbappe equalized in the 29th minute with a sharp shot from Hakimi’s pass. However, the second half faltered again. They conceded back-to-back goals in the eighth minute of the second half and the 23rd minute of the second half.

PSG brought on Kolo Moani, Ugarte, and Varkola in the second half in search of an equalizer. Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the 43rd minute with a spectacular volley, but the 안전놀이터 hosts were unable to find the back of the net in stoppage time. The loss snapped PSG’s winning streak, and along with their first defeat of the season, they now have two wins, two draws, and one loss in their first five games.

PSG has made a lot of changes this summer. For starters, they changed coaches. Christophe Galtier is out and Luis Enrique is in. Enrique previously led Barcelona to a treble. The UCL trophy he won along the way is the trophy PSG wants most.

The team has also seen the departure of players like Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Sergio Ramos and the arrival of many new faces. In addition to Lee, Lukaku, Shkreliar, Ugarte, Asensio, Kolo Moani, Hammers, Dembele, Barkola, and N’Dour have joined the team. With so much change, it’s not surprising that the team hasn’t quite found its groove yet, and tactically, Enrique’s color scheme hasn’t been fully integrated yet.
