Almost a Rolls-Royce in speed, will be a top defender

As soon as Ferdinand praised Van der Vaart, he had his worst performance.

“Fans mocked Rio Ferdinand by claiming he was a ‘Rolls Royce’ after Dutch defender Micky van der Vaart put on a horror show against Newcastle,” British outlet Goal.com reported on Wednesday (KST).

Ferdinand inadvertently cursed Vander Penne, who conceded four goals against Newcastle. “He is the Rolls-Royce of central defenders and he has a chance to be one of the best defenders,” Ferdinand told TNT Sports before the game.

However, Tottenham lost 0-4 to Newcastle in the 33rd round of the English Premier League (EPL) 2023/24 season at St. James’ Park in Newcastle, England, on Sept. 13 (ET), and Van der Vaart was at his worst defensively.

The first goal came in the 30th minute. A turnover by Son Heung-min in the Tottenham half led to Gordon passing the ball to Isaac, who found himself two-on-two with the Tottenham defense. Gordon immediately passed the ball to Isaac and it was a one-on-one between Gordon and Vander Penne, but Vander Penne was tripped up by Isaac’s dribble, giving Tottenham the lead.

The second goal came in the 31st minute. Newcastle continued to press forward, forcing Vicario to fumble and concede possession, and the ball was cleared off the line by Foro, who found Gordon again, this time beating Vander Penn in a one-on-one situation to make it 2-0.

Tottenham scored again, this time on the counterattack. Five minutes into the second half, after Son Heung-min was robbed in another turnover in the Newcastle half, Guimarães played a long pass to an onrushing Isaac. Vander Penne had to be quick to stop him, but Isaac was quicker and made it 3-0.

Newcastle weren’t done there. In the 41st minute, Gordon whipped in a corner kick from the right flank, and Shearer, diving in from behind, couldn’t miss and headed it home to make it a 4-0 disaster.

Panderpene, who had his worst game of the season, had one interception, three caused turnovers, two headers cleared, five recoveries, a 25 percent ground ball win rate, and was involved in three goals for a rating of 5.7.

After this game, fans immediately attacked 바카라 Ferdinand. “I can’t believe Ferdinand hyped up the panderpens in the buildup like that, he’s an amateur,” one fan wrote.

Other fans wrote: “Rio Ferdinand called him a Rolls Royce defender just before the match. He jinxed the poor guy,” “Isaac vs Vander Penn is embarrassing,” and so on.

Meanwhile, after Vander Penne’s mistake at halftime, TNT Sports’ Lindsey Hipgrave was quick to point out Ferdinand’s error. “Newcastle are currently ahead of Manchester United in the table. We have Ferdinand to blame for that because he used the line ‘Rolls-Royce’ when praising Micky Vander Penn before the game,” she joked.

To which Ferdinand replied, “Sometimes Rolls-Royces have technical problems and you have to take them in for an MOT and have them checked out.”
